How do I store Farmer Brown's feeds? |
As with all feedstuffs, Farmer Brown's feeds are perishable, and need to be stored carefully to prevent unnecessary deterioration of the product.
All Farmer Brown's feeds should be stored in a cool (<50°F/10°C) but not freezing, dry place, out of direct sunlight. If you are storing your feed in a garage, shed or outhouse and vermin may be a problem, we would recommend storing your feed in vermin-proof dustbins (preferably made from metal) which are available from hardware shops, garden centres and some supermarkets. Products that have stated vitamin levels, such as Layers' Pellets, Layers' Mash or Chick Crumbs, must be stored correctly or reduction of vitamin levels may result. If stored correctly all Farmer Brown's Products will remain in good condition, with stated vitamin levels at least until the best before date.

I'd like my own mix, how can I get one? |
Contact us with your requirements and we will take it from there. There is no minimum order. |
My birds throw out some of the seed, what can I do? |
Nothing really. Birds are like people in that some of them don't like certain things. Unfortunately birds haven't got the hang of pushing things to one side. |
How long will my bird food keep? |
All Farmer Brown's products (except for grit and oystershell) have a best before date printed on the label. If stored according to instructions you bird food will last at least until this date. In practice our bird food keeps longer. If storage conditions are poor the life of your bird seed will be reduced. |
Why do chicken need grit? |
The chicken need to grit to help them digest grain. They eat the grit and it goes into a muscular sack in their throat called a gizzard. While in here the grit is used to grind the grain they've eaten so they can digest it. They have to do this because they don't have teeth. |
